The hinge was introduced in the Sparks of the Future update and is somewhat similar to an Advanced Rotor. It allows a sub-grid to be moved linearly (in a 'bending' motion as opposed to a 'rotating' one with the Rotor or Advanced Rotor) compared to the main grid.

The hinge can transfer Electricity and is also equipped with conveyor ports at both ends to allow items, Oxygen and Hydrogen to pass through.
